Have you filed for 2022 Texas Homestead Exemption yet?

A residence homestead exemption removes a portion of or the total amount of a property’s value from taxation for property tax purposes. Only a homeowner's principal residence qualifies.

If you are a new homeowner, you may be eligible to lower your property's taxable value and save on property taxes as well.

The new Homestead Exemption Expanded Law, beginning January 1, 2022, allows homebuyers to file for homestead exemption in the year when they purchased the property. In the previous system, new homeowners were required to wait until the following year to qualify for the exemption.
